Leigh Miners Rangers have appointed a new club captain and vice captain for their 2017 NCL campaign.
Head coach Jason Seddon has looked to the experience within the squad and appointed Darryl Kay as captain and Jonny Youds as vice captain.
“You only have to watch Darryl train and play to know that he is a leader by nature and I think this opportunity will see him kick on again as he thrives on responsibility. He is a player that commands plenty of respect amongst the group and sets the bar high with the expectation he places on himself whenever he enters the field of play and comes up with big performances week in, week out and he has consistently been one of the best players in the NCL for a number of years now, all of which is exactly what you need in a captain at this level”.
When asked about the appointment of Jonny Youds as vice captain Jason Seddon commented “Jonny is a player I coached as a junior some years ago, he is a naturally gifted and very talented player who again has been one of the stand out performers in the NCL in recent seasons and is now a senior player within the club. He is a match winner, someone that plays with immense pride and wears his heart on his sleeve, between himself and Darryl I feel we have two very good people to lead us on the field in 2017”.
