  3. Danny, Shining a light on suicide [Video]

At the age of 30 England rugby league player Danny Sculthorpe signed a four-year deal with Super League team Bradford Bulls. In 2010 Danny suffered an injury while lifting weights which resulted in him needing surgery. Ten days after surgery, Danny - an insulant dependent type one diabetic - picked up an infection called osteomyelitis and caught sepsis. His rugby career was suddenly over. Danny said he made the mistake of ‘bottling up’ his thoughts and felt that he couldn’t tell his family he was suffering from depression. It was around five days after his lowest point that he sat down with his mum and dad and wife and open up. Danny then sought help from his GP, who prescribed him anti-depressants, and he spoke regularly to a counsellor. Together we can help prevent suicide. Suicide affects us all.
