Leigh Miners are on their travels again on Saturday when they travel to Dewsbury to take on Thornhill Trojans in Round 6 of the Kingstone Press Cider National Conference League Division One season, Kick off 2-30pm at Overthorpe Park.

Miners go into Saturdays game on the back of a very frustrating 30-22 away defeat at Lock Lane last weekend. After being on top and leading 18-12 at half time, a nightmare ten minutes after the break saw Lock Lane score three tries and lead 30-18. Miners had enough chances after that bad start to win but poor execution and handling cost them in a game they really should have won:

This week at Thornhill the lads know they are in for a challenging contest in what is arguably the toughest game of the season to date. If Miners are to return to Twist Lane with the two points they will need to toughen up in defence and have far more respect for the ball, with both completion rate and execution needing big improvements.

Coach Dave Rowlands makes three changes from the team that got beat at Lock Lane, with Matt Astley, Chris Bower and Calum Coleman coming into the side for Will Ashworth, Frankie Halton and Jack Reynolds.

Thornhill Trojans will be going into Saturday’s clash brimming with confidence after hammering local rivals Shaw Cross Sharks 44-0 away from home last weekend. The Trojans have made a very good start to life in Division One following promotion last year with them winning two, drawing two and losing one of their opening five games to leave them in second position one point behind leaders Milford Marlins.

Leigh Miners second team make the trip up the M6 to Barrow on Saturday to take on Hindpool Tigers in Round 6 of the NWML Division 1, kick off 2-30pm. Last weekend Lee Pugsley’s troops moved into sixth position on the ladder after they beat Widnes Tigers 26-24 at home

The u18s now have a free weekend after opponents South Trafford Raiders forfeited Sunday’s fourth round group game of the Lancashire Cup.

Leigh Miners Ladies will be looking to build on last weeks 28-20 opening day victory against Widnes Vikings on Sunday when they travel to Yorkshire to take on Oulton Raidettes in Round 2 of the Women’s Championship, Kick off 2pm at Raider Park.

The u14s girls team are at home on Saturday morning against Fryston Warriors, Kick off 11am at the Junior section on Manchester Road.

The u12s girls team are away again on Saturday morning against Whitley Bay Barbarians, kick off 10:00am.
