Leigh Miners make the trip to North Yorkshire on Saturday to take on York Acorn in Round 7 of the NCL, Kick off 2-30pm at Thanet Road.

It’s another big game for Miners as they look for their first away win of the season to move further up the table towards the top six with the lads knowing they   cannot afford a fourth league defeat so early in the season. After last weekend’s second half comeback against Skirlaugh where there was plenty of character shown to turnaround a 34-12 half time deficit, centre come stand off Steven Marsh hopes the players can build on this in the coming weeks “I would like us to be a bit more confident and have a bit more self believe! After the first couple of tries against us last week our heads went straight down and with that comes pressure, Lads do stuff they wouldn’t dream about doing and make silly mistakes. But saying that we have fantastic players at our club, and the quality and never say die attitude that we showed in the second half helped us over the line last weekend, that will put us in good spirits and give us confidence to kick on over the next few games.”

On his return to the club after two and a half years away from the game Steven said “Im really enjoying being back amongst the boys, after two and a half years of not playing, I never thought I would play again! It’s only when you think you have finished rugby for good you realize how much you actually miss it! Alan and Paul have been great they didn’t want me to rush into anything and told me to take my time to get up to speed. It Took me a couple of games to get into it again, not as much physically, because I had a full preseason and joined down at WST with Phil Marsden. It was more mentally simple things like passing to the right! I couldn’t it the guy next to me in the bread basket. But with each game I play I feel more switched on and really enjoying the crack down with the boys. Hopefully we can push on and have a really good go this season.”

York Acorn will be surely targeting Saturday’s game to kick start their season having lost all six of their games since returning to the top flight this year, it is something Miners will be eager to make them wait another week for as they to need the two points after a stuttering start to the season.

Coaches Allan Coleman and Paul Whitworth make four changes to the side from last week with Jonny Carroll and Luke Murfin dropping out along with Andrew Groves and Martin Lewis who both miss the game through injury. Coming into the side are Joe Harrison Andrew Hodson Steven Tooze and Jonny Youds.
