Elsewhere the Alliance and Women’s teams both recorded fine wins at the weekend. The Alliance travelled to old foes Wigan St Judes and returned with a 38-22 success. Steven Grundy scored twice and youngster Josh Ward also bagged a try whilst there were further touchdowns for Scott Travis, Andy Newton, Todd Appleby and Steve Kenny. Todd Appleby kicked five goals.
The women’s team picked up a club-record success at West Craven Warriors, 62-16 amply avenging a cup defeat to the same opposition a month or so ago. A relatively tight first half ended 26-10 but Miners ran away with things in the second half to pick up an excellent win. Keli Morris and Rachel Thompson both scored hat-tricks with further tries for Leanne Johnson (two), Emma Mullen (two) and Claire Thompson.
