Miners Rangers have drawn the Royal Navy in the second round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup. The tie, which will be played on the weekend of 10th March, sees Miners – current Carnegie Challenge Cup Community Club of the Year – travel to the Navy’s Portsmouth base for a tough encounter. With the professional clubs of the Championship lying in wait in round three this is a major hurdle for the Leigh side to overcome as the armed forces team will be sure to provide the sternest of tests.
The draw completes a treble for Miners, who played at the Army in the first round in 2007 and then hosted the RAF in a charity challenge match in 2010.
