Leigh Miners make the short trip across the borough tomorrow night (Tuesday) to take on local rivals Ince Rose Bridge in Round 20 of the NCL, Kick off 8pm at Pinfold Street.

Miners go into tomorrow’s derby on the back of four successive league defeats to leave them five points behind sixth place Siddal with only seven games remaining to leave them with only a very slim chance if any of making the end of season playoffs. With the Premier Division being very tight this year Miners who currently sit in ninth position on the ladder with eighteen points are still not safe from remaining in the division with the teams below them fighting for their lives to remain in the top flight. The lads know they need to pick up at least a couple of more victories to ensure Miners keep their proud record of always being in the top division of the NCL and with the Challenge Trophy Final being just over a month away the players will be looking to impress in the four games before the final to make sure they make the seventeen. After being beaten late on last Wednesday by title chasing Thatto Heath, Miners will be looking for the same kind of performance that they produced last week in what was one of their best of performances of a hit and miss season despite going down 22-20, if they can do that they will be sure to pick up some victories that are very much needed.

Coaches Allan Coleman and Paul Whitworth make only one change from the Thatto Heath game with Darryl Kay coming in for u18s utility forward Mark Nicholson.

Ince Rose Bridge go into tomorrow’s game on the back of two successive away defeats (32-31 East Hull) and (30-20 Thatto Heath) to leave them in the relegation zone on twelve points with six games remaining, five of them six being at home and with Bridge having won six of their eight home games so far this year they will be confident of picking up a few more victories from now and the end of the season to keep them in the Premier Division for another year.
