MILFORD MARLINS (HOME)
Leigh Miners’ attentions turn to the Tetleys Challenge Cup on Saturday when they take on NCL Division One outfit Milford Marlins at home in the Second Round, Kick off 2-30pm at Twist Lane, the reward for the winners of Saturdays tie will be a crack at professional opposition in Round Three.
Miners started their league campaign off last week with a narrow 17-16 victory against Siddal and they will be looking to build on that this week against a tough Milford outfit, one thing they will be looking to sort out this week is their discipline after giving away far too many needless penalties last weekend which resulted in Siddal scoring all their points on the back of them, the lads know they need to be squeaky clean in future or it could come back to haunt them.
Coaches Allan Coleman and Paul Whitworth are forced to make one change from last week, standoff Liam Coleman dropping out due to family commitments, youngster Ryan Monaghan coming into the side after impressing for the second team against Leigh East in which he scored two tries, other than that Miners will be unchanged with the rest of last week’s side keeping their places in the seventeen.
Milford will be travelling to Leigh full of confidence after an excellent pre-season where they put sixty on Premier Division side East Hull and started their Division One campaign off with a comfortable 34-6 victory against Waterhead. With the Marlins being in the lower division they will be looking to cause a cup upset and Miners know they will have to be on the ball to stop this from happening against a Milford side who are looking to do big things this year.
The Miners’ match-cast will be providing live updates on the game from around 2pm on Saturday, and can be accessed through our homepage.
