Leigh Miners Rangers had further cause for celebration this week when League Weekly newspaper unveiled the National Conference League awards for the 2012 season.

Head coaches Allan Coleman and Paul Whitworth rounded off their first campaign at the helm by being named as Premier Division Coaches of the Year whilst captain Scott O’Brien and second row Adam Thomason both featured in the Premier Division Team of the Season. The awards, which were voted on by member clubs and rugby league journalists, are the first time the amateur game’s flagship competition has been given such recognition and in what has been a memorable season for Miners Rangers it was another significant fillip to claim the accolades.

Coaches Coleman and Whitworth took the reins at Twist Lane almost twelve months ago and have made an immediate impression on the club, steering the first team to fifth place in the league and the Conference Challenge Cup glory. O’Brien, who is also amongst the nominees for the NCL Player of the Year award this weekend, has captained the side by example from scrum-half whilst BARLA international Thomason, often an unsung hero for the side, caps arguably his best season for the club with his place in the team of the year.

Dave Muir Collects his Award

Meanwhile on Monday evening Alliance team secretary and committeeman Dave Muir was recognised for Services to Rugby League at the North West Tier 4 presentation evening.

Congratulations to all on their success.
