LEIGH Miners Rangers’ Alliance team rounded off a truly memorable season for the club’s open-age section as their promotion to North West Men’s League Division One was confirmed at the weekend.
Although their promotion was confirmed in less than satisfactory circumstances as scheduled opponents Leyland forfeited the game, it should not detract from what was a tremendous season for Simon Travis’ men, who were in the top two for almost the entire campaign.
They became the only team to inflict defeat on runaway champions Halton Farnworth and took a vital six points from a possible eight against promotion rivals Latchford and Bold. To achieve the success, given the fact that a number of players were called up to first-team duty to cover for injuries during the final weeks of the season, is to the credit of the team and coaching staff.
The club’s success across first, Alliance and women’s teams will be celebrated at the awards evening on Friday, November 30.
