Leigh Miners continue their defence of the Conference Challenge Trophy on Saturday when they take on Division One outfit Rochdale Mayfield in Round Two of the competition, Kick off 2-30pm at Twist Lane.

It’s a tie where the home side will start the favourites but a tie where Miners definitely won’t be underestimating their visitors because they know Mayfield will be coming to Twist Lane all fired up looking to cause the upset of the round by knocking out the holders out of the competition. after last weekend’s performance against Egremont Rangers where it was probably Miners best display of the league campaign the lads will now be looking to kick on over the coming weeks and string a good run of performances together, continuing on Saturday as they look to put in another big effort and keep their dream alive of retaining their Challenge Trophy.

Coaches Allan Coleman and Paul Whitworth will make at least a couple of changes from last week with John Woods coming into the side on the wing in place of Andrew Groves who is away on a stag doo and Liam Coleman who comes into the back row. Allan and Paul will wait until Saturday before finalizing their bench.

Rochdale Mayfield go into Saturday’s tie with a 50% win rate in the league winning four and losing four to leave them in eighth position, last weekend they had a good derby victory winning 36-18 at home against Saddleworth Rangers. In the Challenge Trophy Mayfield have seen off Eastmoor Dragons in the preliminary round winning 26-18 and Skirlaugh in round one winning 48-18.
