Following the resignation of head coach Winston Sarsfield in mid-December Leigh Miners Rangers moved to confirm the appointment of the coaching partnership to take charge of the Twist Lane club in the new era of summer rugby as Paul Whitworth and Allan Coleman were appointed to the first team helm. Both men are well known to the club with Paul having steered the second team to considerable success during his time in charge of the side, whilst Allan has served as a player, under-18s and second team coach and first team assistant over the last two decades prior to spending last season assisting Neil Jukes with the Leigh Centurions under-23s.

The club would like to congratulate the pair on their appointment and to taking the club on to the new challenge of summer rugby. The club would also wish to pay considerable tribute to their outgoing predecessor Winston Sarsfield. As a player Winston broke all manner of records with Miners and as a coach he led the team to two Minor Premierships, two Grand Finals and a National Cup final, as well as being assistant to Warren Ayres leading the team to the Grand Final triumph in 2005. In 2011 Winston steered the club to the Community Club of the Year award for their performance in the Carnegie Challenge Cup. With six years and six months at the helm, and a further eighteen months as assistant to Warren, Winston is the longest serving coach in Miners’ history but beyond all that his overall contribution and commitment to the club has proven invaluable and the club would like to put on record their gratitude for his tireless work over the years, and wish him all the best in his continuing recovery from the accident he suffered in the summer.
