Leigh Miners continue their defence of the Conference Challenge Trophy on Saturday afternoon when they take on Division Two outfit Shaw Cross Sharks in the quarter final, Kick off 2-30pm Twist Lane.

With the warm weather set to continue over the weekend the club have organised an action packed day for all the family to enjoy with five matches in total being played starting at 11am, for all of the details visit http://www.leighminersrangers.net/openage/conference-challenge-cup-quarter-final/

Miners go into the game full of confidence after last weekend’s excellent performance at West Hull which has seen them stretch their unbeaten run to four games and move them within touching distance of a top six place. The league though will be the last thing on the players mind on Saturday afternoon as their heads will be fully focused on the cup as they look to keep their dreams alive of winning the Challenge Trophy back to back. The lads have prepared well this week in training and are determined to avoid any cup upset and make it through to the semi finals in what will be a tough challenge against a fired up Shaw Cross Sharks outfit.

Coaches Allan Coleman and Paul Whitworth are forced into making two changes from last weekend with Danny Jones being unavailable for the next few weeks due to working away and Darryl Kay being away in Wales playing for the England Community Lions in their first four nation’s match of the year. With the other fifteen players keeping their place in the side from last week Kev Howells and Sean McDonald come into the side to complete the seventeen.

Shaw Cross Sharks are having an excellent season in Division Two currently sitting in second position on twenty two points with two games in hand of leaders Normanton Knights who have twenty five points, they travel to Twist Lane on the back of ten successive victories which consist of eight league wins along with first and second round Conference Challenge Trophy successes against Hindley (50-0) and Eccles (28-6) respectively. The Sharks have nothing to lose on Saturday and they will be playing with no pressure at all looking to cause a massive upset by knocking the holders out of the competition.
