Leigh Miners make the short trip down the M62 on Saturday afternoon when they travel to St Helens to take on Thatto Heath Crusaders in Round 11 of the NCL Premier Division, Kick off 2-30pm at Close Street.

Over the years it hasn’t been the best of hunting grounds for Miners with their only recent victory coming in the final game of the 2011 interim season when an under strength Miners side shocked the then NCL and European champions by winning 38-16, other than that victory Miners have been well beaten on their last few visits to Close Street and it is something they are eager to change as they look to build on their two successive home wins in recent weeks and pick up a second away win of the season, the lads knowing if they are to get that second away win of the season they will have to produce a strong performance to beat a good Thatto side to bring the two points back to Twist Lane.

Coaches Allan Coleman and Paul Whitworth are forced into making five changes from the side that beat Rochdale Mayfield in the cup with Liam Coleman Danny Jackson and Danny Jones all missing the game being away at music festivals, Kev Howells away on holiday and Steven Marsh away at a wedding. Coming into the side are Tony Doyle and Jimmy Muir who makes his return to the side after missing the last few matches due to injury. Gary Gittins Martin Gray and Chris Slater also come into the seventeen making their first appearances of the season.

Thatto Heath are currently joint top of table on fourteen points with last year’s grand final winners Wath Brow Hornets and newly promoted Lock Lane winning seven of their ten league games and they go into Saturdays game on the back of an excellent 28-16 victory away at Siddal last weekend which ended a run of three successive defeats.
