Leigh Miners take on Wath Brow Hornets on Saturday afternoon in Round 15 of the NCL, Kick off 2-30pm Twist Lane.

Miners stretched their unbeaten run to five matches last weekend but were far from convincing with ball in hand turning over possession far too cheaply throughout the game, something they will have to improve on this weekend if they are to get the two points and keep themselves in the mix for a top six spot. A positive from last week was the defensive effort the lads produced in the heat, working tirelessly throughout to keep Shaw Cross to two tries despite them having most of the ball in the second half. With the weather again forecast to be very warm Miners will be looking to avoid putting too much pressure on themselves by doing too much defending like they did last week and instead having a high completion rate to keep Wath Brow under pressure returning the ball from their own half. After the game on Saturday the Rugby League World Cup Trophy will be on display in the clubhouse from 5pm until 7pm as part of Leigh’s build up to the group game between Tonga and Cook Islands in November, for all the details visit http://www.leighminersrangers.net/openage/rl-world-cup-comes-to-leigh-miners-with-ticket-deal/

Coaches Allan Coleman and Paul Whitworth make three changes from last weekend’s Challenge Trophy victory with Andrew Groves Sean McDonald and Luke Murfin all being away on holiday, coming into the side are Todd Appleby Jonny Carroll and Darryl Kay who returns from international duty.

Wath Brow Hornets travel to Leigh on the back of a tough Conference Challenge Trophy Quarter Final victory against Blackbrook, a late Karl Dixon try securing a 24-20 win for the Hornets to set up a mouth-watering home semi-final clash with Wigan St Pats on the 10th August. In the league last year’s NCL Champions are going strong again currently sitting in second place on twenty points after fourteen games with a game in hand of leaders Wigan St Pats who have twenty one points.

UNFORTUNATLY THEIR WILL BE NO MATCHCAST UPDATES THIS WEEK, BUT IT WILL RETURN FOR THE LOCK LANE MATCH NEXT SATURDAY

The second team have a free weekend.

The u18s are away to Rylands Sharks on Sunday in the league.

Leigh Miners Ladies are at home to West Craven Warriors on Sunday in the league, Kick off 2pm at Twist Lane.
