Leigh Miners travel across the borough on Saturday to take on local rivals Wigan St Pats in Round 15 of the NCL Kingstone Press Cider Premier Division, Kick off 2-30pm at Clarington Park.

Miners go into Saturdays”Battle of the Borough” clash on the back of three successive league and cup victories, a run which has seen them move into sixth position in the league and seen them handed a home quarter final tie against St Pats at the beginning of August. Despite three wins on the bounce the lads know they still have plenty to work on in both attack and defence over the coming weeks if they are to keep up in their bid for a top six spot, victory for Miners on Saturday would see them complete a league double over St Pats and would open up a little gap between Miners and the teams below hunting for a top six spot, that would also give the men from Twist Lane an opportunity to start looking at what is above them in the table rather than what is below them.

Coaches Allan Coleman & Paul Whitworth are forced into making three changes from the Dudley Hill game with Todd Appleby and Chris Bower and Mark Nicholson coming into the side for Matt Astley, the suspended Shaun Dowie and Martin Gray  who misses the next two matches due to being away on holiday.

Wigan St Pats will see this derby match as a must win game, with them look to get their league campaign back on track after losing there last three league games to fall out of a top six position into 8th. Pats got back to winning ways last weekend with a 50-22 Challenge Trophy victory away against Waterhead, On the road Pats have been relatively strong so far this year, it as been at home where they have struggled winning only one of their six home games so far this year and with Miners themselves only winning one league game away from home, tomorrow’s encounter will again be hard to call with them usually going down to the wire, Miners old boy Ryan Smith will be a key figure for the home side with him picking up a ruck full of man of the match awards so far this season as well as crossing the whitewash over twenty times in league and cup.
