Leigh Miners Ladies produced another first for the club this weekend when they progressed the Plate Final to be staged at the Stobart Stadium, home of the Widnes Vikings, next Sunday.

It was a nail-biting match in the Barnoldswick foothills in glorious autumn weather and Miners made the perfect start, first through Keli Morris and then Leanne Johnson, the converted tries giving Miners a 12-0 lead. West Craven halved the deficit with a try before half time.

Ten minutes into the second half the visitors extended their advantage when Kerry Clayton drove over under the sticks and defences were on top thereafter until the closing stages, when West Craven scored to move within four points of their opponents. However Miners held firm to book their first ever finals appearance, against Brighouse Rangers on Sunday.
