Leigh Miners entertain local rivals Wigan St Pats on Saturday in Round 9 of the NCL Kingstone Press Cider Premier Division, Kick off 2-30pm at Twist Lane. Saturdays game will be played in memory of Miners legend and inaugural Hall of Fame member Robert Dowling, Bobs family friends and past players will be attending what is sure to be a cracker of a derby match.

Miners go into Saturdays derby game on the back of a moral boosting 62-0 away win at Wigan St Judes last Wednesday, a win that was their first away victory of the season and moved them into seventh position in the table after slipping down the ladder in previous weeks with poor results away at Wath Brow Hornets and Hull Dockers. With Miners being dominant from start to finish in both attack and defence against a poor St Judes side last week they will be looking for another big performance on Saturday against a good Wigan St Pats side with the lads knowing a fourth home win of the season will move them into the top six before having a week off next weekend when the Premier Division takes a break.

Coaches Allan Coleman & Paul Whitworth will be forced into making at least one change from the St Judes game with Martin Gray missing out due to a wedding, Ellis Grimes comes back into the side having returned from holiday and new signing Tom Parkinson will come into contention having recently signed from Wigan St Judes. Lee Gittins Danny Jones and Darryl Kay all miss the game through injury but are hopeful to be back playing for the trip to East Leeds in two weeks time.

Wigan St Pats travel to Twist Lane currently sitting in fourth position having won five of their opening eight matches, having struggled to pick up the wins at home only winning one of the four played at Clarington Park they have a 100% away record so far this season having won all four matches on the road against Wigan St Judes Hull Dockers Hunslet Warriors and Egremont Rangers and they will be keen to add away win number five against Miners in a derby match now dubbed “Battle of the Borough”.
