BARROW RAIDERS (AWAY)
Leigh Miners attentions turn to the Tetley’s Challenge Cup on Sunday when they travel to Cumbria to take on championship outfit Barrow Raiders in the third round, Kick off 3pm at Craven Park.
All the pressure will be on the home side on Sunday as they will be looking to avoid any cup upset against Miners after being run close a couple of years ago at LSV. Barrow go into the game sitting in twelve place in the championship after picking up a much needed win on Easter Monday against York City Knights, they have been competitive in most matches throughout the campaign so far winning two games and losing a number of close matches late on against Whitehaven Leigh and Keithley. Ex Miners juniors Adam Clay Mathew Haggerty and Anthony Nicholson should all be in the Barrow squad to face their old club, all three featured in one of the clubs successful u18s sides from a few years ago which also included current first team players Danny Jones Sean Pendlebury and Adam Thomason.
Miners can look forward to their day out on Sunday with no pressure at all with them being the amateur side and it will give the players the chance to test themselves against professional opposition, after a good weeks training all the lads are looking forward to giving a good account of themselves as they look to put the disappointment of back to back league defeats behind them with a strong performance on Sunday.
Liam Coleman and Kev Howells return to the squad after missing the St Pats game but Miners will be without the services of centre Martin Lewis winger John Woods and back rower Shaun Marsh who all miss the game through injury.
