Miners Rangers’ Alliance team continued to press their promotion claims with a 66-22 success over Oldham St Annes. With only three games remaining Miners are in pole position to claim the Division Two runners-up spot, and hitting the sixty point mark for the second weekend running certainly helped the points difference. There were braces for Scott Travis, Craig Connor, Steve Kenny, Stephen Grundy and single scores for Tom Warburton, Jimmy Muir, Andy Newton, Danny Trimble, Ryan Monaghan and Lewis Helme. Todd Appleby kicked four goals with Grundy and Warburton landing one each. Jimmy Muir claimed the match award for the fourth game in a row.

The women’s team lost out in their play-off tie across the Pennines at Guiseley. After a slow start the ladies trailed 8-0 but converted tries for Catherine Thompson and Celia Farrimond had the Miners 12-8 ahead at the break. Once again a slow start to the second period had Guiseley back in front but Catherine Thompson’s second try gave Miners hope before injuries took their toll in the closing stages as the Yorkshire side closed the game out. Rachel Thompson won the match award.

Miners’ first team NCL Premier Division game at Wigan St Patricks has now been rescheduled once again and will be played on Wednesday 17th October 8pm.
