Following on from the recent appointment of Kieran Makin as Head of Sports Media at Leigh Miners Rangers the club are extremely pleased to confirm another appointment, Nathan Strong will be joining the club as Head of Sports Therapy.

Through the UCLan partnership agreement now in place Nathan has come highly recommended as a former graduate who now runs his own Sports Therapy practice. Nathan, who graduated at UCLan with a first class Sports Therapy degree also holds a VCTC Level 4 in sports massage, along with several other relevant qualifications. Prior to setting up his own practice Nathan has had considerable experience in top class sporting environments such as Burnley FC, Bolton Wanderers FC and with the Wigan Warriors as a soft tissue therapist for their first grade players providing both pre and post match therapy.

As the lead for the clubs sports therapy department Nathan will also oversee a team of UCLan undergraduates who will have the opportunity to gain some valuable experience while on placement at Leigh Miners Rangers. Nathan’s primary role will be to work with the club’s NCL team and he will be in attendance at all home and away fixtures to ensure the players are receiving the correct preparation and treatment pre and post match. Nathan will also provide an additional weekly treatment clinic at the club for all the players who play for our Youth, Women, NWML and NCL teams, again this will be supported by students on practical experience placements from UCLan’s Sports Therapy degree course.

The level the players within the club train and compete at on a weekly basis needs to be matched in terms of the knowledge and delivery of medical support we can offer to them, as the welfare of our players is of paramount importance to us as a club. Therefore, bringing in a highly qualified sports therapist such as Nathan who will be accessible to the players on a weekly basis demonstrates our commitment to providing the necessary level of support for athlete’s who compete at the highest level within the community game.
