Leigh Miners Rangers have named their 19-Man Squad to make the long trip to Newcastle.

The club is invited into the cup after the 2015 success and are looking to use this competition as good pre-season preparation.

With Matt Astley, Jonny Youds, Jimmy Muir, Danny Jones, Connor Partington and Adam Thomason all unavailable along with Brad Hargreaves and Ian Mort looking likely to not appear it gives the opportunity for new and upcoming players a chance to put themselves in the frame alongside some experienced players for the National Conference League as we prepare for the 2016 season.

Newcastle Thunder Head coach Mick Mantelli has selected 10 of the club’s new summer signings for the clash.

It is an experienced line up that will take to the Kingston Park field and one that includes five current or former internationals, underlining the head coach’s intention to take the League One cup competition seriously.

Australian Tom Ruediger makes the first competitive start of his Thunder at fullback, while Derrell Olpherts and Dan Parker make their debuts in the centres.

Fellow newcomer and former England international Peter Fox takes to the wing and is joined on the opposite wide channel by co-captain and Jamaican international Joe Brown., while Benn Hardcastle begins his second consecutive season in a Thunder shirt by partnering Cook Island international Aaron Teroi in the half backs.

In the pack, Teroi’s fellow Cook Islander Vincent Rennie joins the experienced Craig Cook and Rhys Clarke in the front row, with Scottish international Lee Paterson partnering in the second row with young summer signing Harry Aldous.

Home grown talent Sam Luckley completes the starting XIII.

Three of the young English talents who have come up to Thunder make up half of the number with Evan Simons, Fran Welsh and Josh Kittrick, while Craig Boot, Gioele Celerino and Dan Turland complete the squad.

Saturday’s game kicks off at 18:30 at Kingston Park, with tickets priced at £12 for adults, £9 for concessions and £7 for under 16s.
