Leigh Miners head over the Pennines to Dewsbury on Saturday to take on Shaw Cross Sharks in a rearranged Round 2 Kingstone Press Cider National Conference League Division One fixture, after the original game which should have taken place in March was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, Kick off 2-30pm at Shark Park.

Miners go into Saturday’s game having been winning 32-6 against Bradford Dudley Hill before it was abandoned around the hour mark because of a brawl. The NCL management committee deciding on Tuesday evening that the result would stand with Miners being in control of the match, a decision that the club are happy about with the only disappointing thing about the game being cut short was the fact they couldn’t post more points on the board to boost their points difference.

With this weeks game against Shaw Cross being a rearranged fixture it is massive for Miners that they get the victory to move themselves up the table and only two points behind leaders Thornhill. Miners certainly won’t be taking anything for granted despite Shaw Crosses league position, as they know full well from their previous two away games so far in 2018 that if they are not switched on for the full eighty minutes, they will come unstuck against a side who will no doubt will be looking to raise their game against them.

Coach Dave Rowlands is forced into making six changes from the side that took to the field against Dudley Hill last weekend, with Todd Fenlon, Mick Govin, Owen Johnson, Andy Philbin, Jack Reynolds and Jimmy Tunstall coming into the side for Calum Coleman, Joe Connor (Work), Joe Digby (holiday), Deakon Monks, Mark Thomas (injured) and Josh Ward (injured)

Shaw Cross Sharks go into this weekends fixture having lost their last five matches to leave them bottom of the table, their last win was on the opening day of the season when they won 18-12 at Ince Rose Bridge.

The second team and u18s both have free weekends.

Leigh Miners Ladies are away at Whitley Bay Barbarians on Sunday in first Round of the Women’s Challenge Cup, Kick off 2pm. The Ladies go into the match on the back of an excellent 58-6 win against Hull FC last weekend.

The u14s and u12s girls sides both have free weekends.
