Leigh Miners take on West Hull on Saturday in Round 8 of the NCL, Kick off 2-30pm at Twist Lane.

For the third week running Miners play a team below them in the table and they will be hoping for the same outcome as the two previous weeks as they look to push themselves further up the league ladder with hooker Tom Farrimond looking for better team performances in the coming weeks and build on the last two wins “last week I thought we were scrappy but at the same time felt we were always going to win the game. I think it’s fair to say as a team we haven’t managed a full performance yet this year. It was in this fixture last year I thought we peaked, we defended brilliantly and everything we did with the ball came off, Saturdays match however, will be much harder than last years for a number of reasons, we are no longer the unknown underdogs and we start every game expecting to finish up as winners, but in recent weeks we’ve been taught that nobody gets two points without the level of commitment and hard work that was on show last year. Hopefully we can kick on over the coming weeks and establish a run of wins which will put us into the right end of the league and into the next round of the conference challenge trophy.”

West Hull have won two of their six league games this season to leave them in eleventh place in the table and will be travelling to Leigh with confidence after a 34-8 derby win last weekend against Myton Warriors with new signings Scott Spaven and Brett Turner playing key roles in their victory having recently returned to Wests from the professional game.

Coaches Allan Coleman and Paul Whitworth are forced into making three changes from the seventeen that travelled to York Acorn last weekend with Kev Howells and Steven Tooze missing the game through injury and Dave Rowlands being away on a stag doo. Coming into the side are Danny Jones Luke Murfin and ex Leigh East forward Semisi Cocker who has recently joined Miners after a stint in rugby union.
