Leigh Miners take on York Acorn on Saturday afternoon in Round 18 of the NCL in what is a must win game for both clubs, Kick off 2-30pm at Twist Lane.

Miners go into Saturday’s game on the back of a tough 34-18 semi-final victory against Milford Marlins last weekend which has left the club buzzing with them being in a second successive Conference Challenge Trophy Final. With several players returning to the side against Milford having missed the two away league defeats in previous weeks, Miners attack looked a lot more fluent and dangerous which is something they will be looking to continue doing well over the coming weeks with some very important matches coming up. The lads know if they are to have any chances of being involved in the end of season playoffs they need to string a good run of results together starting on Saturday against a desperate York Acorn outfit who currently sit at the bottom of the table and need all the points they can get, a victory for Miners on Saturday would keep them in the mix for a top six spot while a defeat would see them slip further behind a playoff spot and leave Miners looking over their shoulders at the sides below them who are battling to stay in the Premier Division which is something they are keen to avoid.

Coaches Allan Coleman & Paul Whitworth will be forced into making at least one change from the Milford game with Jonny Carroll coming in for Andrew Groves who is away for the weekend. Other than that Miners should be unchanged from last week with the likes of Ross Bradley Lee Gittins Danny Jackson Danny Jones Steven Marsh Luke Murfin and John Woods still to come back into the side before the end of the season.

York Acorn travel to Twist Lane on the back of three successive league defeats to leave them at the bottom of the table on ten points with only six games remaining, although Acorn are bottom they have been competitive in most of their games this year but they know that being competitive will count for nothing if they don’t pick up some victories in their remaining games because they will be back playing Division One rugby next year. When the two sides met at Thanet Road back in April Miners came away with the spoils winning 24-14.
