Leigh Miners play their first away game of 2013 on Saturday when they travel to West Cumbria to take on Egremont Rangers in Round 2 of the NCL, Kick off 2-30pm at Gilfoot Park.

Both teams go into the game on the back of two straight wins at the start of the new season, Miners with league and cup wins and Egremont with two league wins which currently sees them sitting at the top of the NCL. Saturday will be the first meeting between the sides since last year’s epic Conference Challenge Trophy final in which Miners won 32-24, Miners seemed to be coasting to victory leading 26-0 with over an hour played but a late surge by the Cumbrians had Miners hanging on at 26-24, before a late Martin Lewis try sealed the game in the final couple of minutes.

Miners make two changes from last week’s win against Milford with centre Ross Bradley and winger Andrew Groves missing out due to work commitments. Liam Coleman returns to the side after missing last week along with last year’s top try scorer Sean Pendlebury who makes his first appearances of the season after recovering from injury. Coaches Allan Coleman & Paul Whitworth will be looking for the same defensive effort as last week with the lads being dominant throughout against a big Milford outfit and they know a similar if not bigger effort is required this week with the likes of John-Paul Brocklebank and Clayton Sutton being big threats for Egremont.

Leigh Miners second team entertain Thatto Heath Crusaders on Saturday afternoon in the League looking to bounce back after being narrowly defeated against Wigan St Judes last weekend, Kick off 2-30pm at Twist Lane.

Leigh Miners third team are away to New Springs Lions on Saturday in a friendly.

The u18s are away at Langworthy Reds in the league on Sunday.

Leigh Miners Ladies start their new league campaign on Sunday away at West Craven Warriors.
