Leigh Miners take on local rivals Leigh East on Friday night in Round 18 of the NCL, Kick off 7-30pm at Twist Lane. In a game now dubbed the “Street Of Origin” the third and final game this year will be “The Decider” with both teams having won a game apiece so far with East winning 19-10 in the league back in April and Miners winning 34-22 in the cup three weeks ago, both games being played at Ledgard Avenue. With both teams looking to take the local bragging rights until next year the two competition points are vital for both teams with Miners looking to keep in and around the top six and Leigh East looking to keep out of reach of the teams below them and climb up the table towards the top six.
Miners have only one player unavailable from last week’s seventeen that beat Wath Brow Hornets 52-6 in the cup, Tom Farrimond who is away on holiday leaving second rower Adam Thomason has the only player to have featured in every first team game this year. Apart from that the other sixteen players will all be looking to keep their shirt along with a number of lads looking to step up from the second team after impressing in recent weeks. John Woods, Aaron Gorton and Danny Jones also return from holiday and injuries respectively leaving a good selection headache for coaches Allan Coleman & Paul Whitworth.
Leigh East go into Friday night’s derby freshened up after having no game last weekend with Miners old boys Dean Balmer and Kieron Dainty both set to play at Twist Lane against Miners for the first time.
The Second team are away to Halton Farnworth Hornets in the League on Saturday, Kick off 2-30pm. Miners are currently third with their host being top of the table having lost only one game this year against Miners on the opening day of the season.
The u18s game against Leigh East on Sunday has been unfortunately cancelled with Miners unable to raise a team.
The Ladies have a free weekend.
