Leigh Miners travel to Humberside on Saturday to take on Skirlaugh in Round 10 of the Kingstone Press Cider National Conference League Division One, Kick off 2-30pm at Eastside Sports Centre.

Miners go into Saturday’s game on the back of a week off due to the bank holiday, the free weekend giving the players the chance to rest up and recover from any niggling injuries ahead of some important matches over the next few weeks.

The last game being a fortnight ago when they beat Oulton Raiders 38-33 at Twist Lane in a contest that Miners probably shouldn’t have won after they again leaked to many points in and was poor defensively, the only positives Miners can take out of the game was the desire and commitment they showed to come back from 32-20 in the final ten minutes to win the game.

This week the lads that have been selected to take on Skirlaugh know they are going to have to bar up in defence all across the park if they want to have any chance of returning home with the two points, because they know if they defend like they have in the previous two games they will come unstuck against a good attacking outfit.

Coach Dave Rowlands makes four changes from the side that played against Oulton a couple of weeks ago, with Matt Astley, Chris Bowers, Joe Digby and Scott O’Brien coming into the side for Will Bradbury, Frankie Halton, Brad Hargreaves and Owen Johnson.

Skirlaugh are currently sitting in seventh position on the ladder on 9 points after only playing seven games due to fixtures being called off early in the season because of the bad weather. The Carrots are one of three sides in Division One that are unbeaten at home this season and they will no doubt be looking to keep it that way on Saturday afternoon, as they look to bounce back from a 28-18 defeat at third place Milford a couple of weeks ago.

Lee Pugsley’s second team are at home on Saturday against Halton Simms Cross in the league, Kick off 2-30pm at Twist Lane.

The u18s game against Blackbrook on Sunday as been postponed and will be rearranged at a later date.

Leigh Miners Ladies are at home against Wigan Warriors on Sunday in the first round of the Women’s Challenge Cup, Kick off 2pm at Twist Lane.

The u14s girls are away at Whitley Bay Barbarians on Saturday morning, Kick off 11am

The u12s girls team have a free weekend.
