There is another double header at 12pm when the u13s take on Rylands Sharks and the u14s girls team entertain Hull KR, Lee Pugsley’s second team are the last match on before the first team when they play Hindpool in the league, Kick off 1-30pm. Following the first team game their will be more Live evening entertainment from the not to be missed Johnny Cooper experience.

The festival comes to an end on Sunday with a number of junior games at 11am and the u18s who take on Woolston Rovers in the league at 12-30pm. A dads versus lads game kicks off at 2pm, followed kids entertainment by Looby Loo at 4pm. An action packed three days is planned with 30 craft beers and cider, gin bar, prosecco bar, food court and plenty of sunshine.

Miners go into Saturday’s game having notched up their seventh successive victory a fortnight ago when they beat Ince Rose Bridge 18-10, the performance being far from convincing with ball in hand  but with the lads putting in a shift in defence in the poor weather conditions it was enough to get a derby victory to stay in the mix with Thornhill and Lock Lane at the top of the table.

This week Miners will be looking to stretch their winning run to eight matches against a York Acorn side they beat 40-34 in May, and with it also being a massive weekend at the junior section their is no better time to put in a strong performance to keep that run going. The weather is again forecast to be a scorcher on Saturday, with all the lads selected knowing that they need to bar up in defence and have  a lot more respect for the ball than they have been doing if they are to get the win, because if they don’t they will come unstuck against an Acorn side who are out for revenge.

Coach Dave Rowlands makes three changes from the side that beat Rose Bridge a couple of weeks ago, with Craig Ashall, Louie Brogan and Mark Thomas coming into the side for Joe Digby, Owen Johnson and Elliot Liku.

Briefly looking back at the victory at Ince Rose Bridge a couple of weeks ago, coach Dave Rowlands said “Bridge is always a tough place to go and the performance wasn’t the best but we managed to get the two points and keep the winning run going.”

“We are doing it tough at the minute with quite a few bodies missing but we are winning and that’s all that matters.”

On this weekends game against York Acorn, Rowlands added “It’s going to be a very tough game, they are a very big side with some real quality in there ranks.”

“It was a very good game at there place so we need to be at our best to carry on the winning run we are on”

We aren’t doing it pretty at the moment, but we are grinding out results which shows me we are working for one another and that is very pleasing to see.”

With all the senior section playing at Sutton Park this weekend, Dave said “This weekend is massive occasion for the club as it’s the only weekend where we play at the junior section.”

“With the beer festival and all proceeds from the weekend going to charity, last year the money raised was amazing and hopefully we can do the same again this year.”

York Acorn will be travelling to Leigh with virtually a fully fit squad to choose from and go into Saturday’s game on the back of a 43-12 away defeat at Featherstone Lions. Acorn are currently sitting in seventh position on the division one ladder with 11 points, having won 5, drawn 1 and lost 6 of their twelve games played this season.

Talking about the last time the teams met and this weeks game to YorkPress.co.uk, Acorn’s head coach Leigh Paul-Rientoul who criticises Miners for their safe passages of play said “We had 13 unavailable last time but now they’re all pretty much available, Hopefully this week we can put a decent side out and be good to go.”

“When we played at our place, Leigh were playing pretty much boring rugby. I think they’ll be doing really simple plays again on Saturday.”

“The effort’s there but we just keep doing the same things wrong. We didn’t have our best side out, but I think, with having a better side this time round, we’ll do better.”
